Someone extremely close to me past away when I was ten years old. Since then it’s been my belief that this person is my angel. The one that looks over me, takes care of me, and makes sure that I get a little tap on the shoulder whenever I’m not on the right path. With this thinking came a huge liking of angels and angel wings to the point where I almost got a tattoo of angel wings (thank goodness I didn’t get that tattoo done because I would’ve removed it by now).

Fast forward to Christmas 2006,when I went to Bryant Park during their Fêtes de Noël, a shopping festival during the holidays where the park is full of vendors. I entered a shop called Lola Bean and I saw a necklace with a pair of angel wings. It hit a nerve right away when I saw the necklace, but I didn’t have money that day. I took a business card with me, to check their website, but the item wasn’t there. I sent an email and they answered back almost immediately, with the response that Lola Bean Team was travelling but once they got back they would handmake my angel wing necklace and ship my order.

I love Lola Bean for their great customer service, but more importantly for allowing me to express myself with this piece of jewelry that I wear so proudly, because of what it represents.

BUT, BUT, BUT!! Hear me out on this one for a second……..

Yesterday, I received my Black Halo Jackie O Dress from Saks (that I loved on Amanda and I blogged about previously), and here is the deal. I bought the dress in a size that fits a bit too tight. However, I already made up my mind and their is absolutely no way that I am sending the dress back and departing from it. So I decided to tweak my eating habits and my workout schedule in order to shed a couple of pounds and have the dress fit perfectly.

Therefore, in 6 weeks time (May 17th, 2007). I will be trying on the dress for another fitting. If it fits, then I will be going out on the town (NYC) with my fab dress. If not, then I will return the dress and get the appropriate size.
I think this is a feasible compromise.

The seedling halter dress & The seven hills dress

I didn’t like the seedling halter dress for a few reasons, starting with that fact that it did not flatter my chest area. 2. The swirl print from top to bottom was a total distraction. It felt like too much was going on. 3. It was pinching my outer chest area, and 3. the belt did not sit naturally at the waist. 4. Lastly, their was not enough volume on the skirt and I wanted more of an A-line silhouette.
The seven hills dress worked much better. 1. It was not the washed out color the website made it to be, it’s actually a beautiful bright spring yellow that is perfect for a party in the Caribbean. 2. The v-neck at the chest area brings the focus upwards and brightens up the face, 3. It also narrows the waist, as so does the empire cut of the dress. 4. An finally I found the skirt had the volume I was looking for.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my yellow dress and in the process of returning the green swirl dress.

THE BEST PART: The Begeren Designer is an FIT Merchandising graduate and soon we will be sharing the same Alma Mater.

Ahhhhhh!!!!……I have been dreaming of little black dresses. I feel like I see them everywhere (billboards, magazines, stores, commercials, TV shows, etc…).

I am dreaming of owning this very different silhouette by Diane Von Furstenberg. I always thought that the first thing that I would buy from DVF would be a classic wrap dress.
But, I’m not so sure anymore since I literally can’t stop thinking about this dress. I want to go to SAKSand try it on before I make any sudden purchases. I feel like there is a 50/50 chance of success/failure (no gray area or in betweens).
However, on my many internet searches I found these 2 other dresses that I also like very much.

As soon as I got your email I had an idea on what to recommend. The one item that you MUST have before you go on vacation is a cotton empire waist dress. In essence, it will balance your figure out by cinching you at the upper torso (the smallest part of your body) and the rest will be flowing away from the body. The best part of the cotton empire waist is that you can dress it up or down with your accessories. Wear the dress with metallic flats for the day and for the night time wear the dress with peep toe wedges or platform heels, and don’t forget to pack a clutch, it will come in handy.

I also thought out a second outfit that is on the funky-creative side. I have included my utmost favorite capri jeans (I bought these and adore them) and I like wearing them with any drapey top.

FYI….I know this green dress is not empire waist but I couldn’t help it. I love this dress and color is superb.
